Notes on Fragrance An Essay from the Co-Founders

Our love for scent is personal, but we came to this love from different ends of the spectrum. 

For a long time, Terry considered herself a novice when it came to fragrance. We're often told what products to use based on our hair type, what makeup brands will give us our desired finish. But how do you find your signature scent when most of what we see are prettily packaged bottles with luxurious ads promising a sweet-smelling outcome? Over time, Terry found her footing, experimenting, layering, learning, and, most importantly, having fun. She's discovered a preference for sweet, powerful scents with notes of vanilla and patchouli. But more than scent loyalty, she loves it when she tries a new combo and someone says, "Wow, you smell so good!" Big win. 

Jeanine's love for fragrance, on the other hand, evolved from a young age. It began on her mother's vanity, where she would take in all the vibrant scents from different perfume bottles. Her scent palette grew as she entered her teenage years where she began to experiment with nostalgic scents of that time such as, Victoria's Secret Love Spell, Bath & Body Works Vanilla Warm Sugar, and the infamous (and still iconic) Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. However, she found her signature scent in her twenties—a perfect Amber perfume—that made her feel confident, sophisticated, and unique. Layering and matching scents has become part of her daily routine - she never leaves the house without a custom trail of aromas she has blended together. For her, fragrance can change how you feel, and every day, that feeling is different. 

With our first scent with S.S.K. Labs, we wanted to capture our shared appreciation for fragrance. We started with Amber, a strong foundation that will blend and build easily with forthcoming drops.
